Launch of DJI Mavic Pro Platinum and Phantom 4 Pro Obsidian
At the IFA industrial exhibition, on August 31st, 2017, DJI announced two new additions to their existing aerial platform lineup for consumers– the Mavic Pro Platinum and the Phantom 4 Pro Obsidian. Both new drone units have undergone cosmetic upgrades, with the new Phantom 4 Pro Obsidian edition now donning a super-sleek matte black and metallic finish while the Mavic Pro Platinum has been recast in a steely grey platinum color. DJI didn’t stop short there– they also announced newly expanded battery life and an overall noise reduction, allowing you to fly for longer, less overtly.

Berlin Radio Show

IFA, otherwise known in the vernacular as Internationale Funkausstellung Berlin (or colloquially as the Berlin Radio Show) is one of the largest and oldest public trade shows for consumer electronics and new technology that is held annually in Berlin, Germany. The announcement comes just before the turn of the fourth quarter as DJI begins to prepare for the holiday season– coinciding with final ship dates of the long awaited CrystalSky 7.85" Ultra Brightness and the new DJI Cendence remote controller.

Mavic Pro Platinum Specs

The all new Mavic Pro Platinum is a small, yet respectable step up from the original Mavic Pro. While some of the differences may be negligible, there are two more significant upgrades we can explore which have seen attention in the Mavic Pro Platinum:
    • Sporting a 4dB Noise Reduction

Donning newly upgraded sinusoidal, field-oriented control ESC technology and the newly re-engineered 8331 re-pitched Platinum propellers, the Mavic Pro Platinum is capable of flying up to 60% quieter than the original Mavic Pro. This makes the Platinum the ultimate low profile, foldable drone yet– continuing in the vein of making Mavic drone technology more inconspicuous and tolerable in the eyes and ears of non-drone users and sympathizers.

  • Improved Flight Time & Power Efficiency

With a newly upgraded flight battery, the Mavic Pro Platinum is now capable of flying up to 30 minutes, up from the original 27 minute flight time under no wind conditions at a spec’ed 15.5mph flight speed.

  • Re-Skinned Platinum Shell

Recoated with a steely-looking mid-tone platinum, the Mavic Pro Platinum outer shell has been fully recolored, perfectly outlining the sharp contrast, features, and form of the sleek foldable body.

Phantom 4 Pro Obsidian Specs

Unlike the Mavic Pro Platinum, the DJI Phantom 4 Pro Obsidian has not seen any performance upgrades whatsoever. However, new Pro 4 model boasts a recolor similar to the Mavic Pro– only this time in Obsidian matte black. DJI Phantom 4 Pro Obsidian Edition Side view
  • All New "Murdered Out " Matte Black Finish

Specially manufactured at the highest of standards, the brand new, fully re-skinned, sleek matte-gray Obsidian color shell features a magnesium, electroplated and anti-fingerprint coated gimbal as an accent that really makes the Obsidian unit a showstopper.
