uAvionix skyAlert is a rugged, wearable ADS-B detector for UAS crews. Dual-band (978/1090 MHz) reception triggers audible/visual alerts in configurable zones. Clips to belt/visor, runs up to 12 hours, and streams GDL-90 traffic over Wi-Fi to EFB apps for added situational awareness.
uAvionix skyAlert is a rugged, wearable ADS-B detection system that boosts airspace awareness for UAS pilots and visual observers. It listens on both 978 MHz and 1090 MHz to detect cooperative crewed aircraft and delivers real-time audible and visual alerts—so your team can stay heads-up on the mission, not buried in a screen.
Real-Time ADS-B Awareness

- Dual-band reception: tracks ADS-B Out on 978 MHz (UAT) and 1090 MHz (ES) for broad coverage of cooperative traffic.
- Instant alerts: loud tones and multicolor LEDs when aircraft enter your configurable alert zone (range & altitude).
- Glanceable status: LEDs indicate traffic, GPS, battery, and system health.
Wearable & Field-Ready

- Compact & light: approx. 2.54 × 1.58 × 3.65 in (64.6 × 40.18 × 92.6 mm), ~5.7 oz (161 g).
- Rugged design: built for demanding environments; clips to belt or visor with included RAM® mount.
- All-day power: up to 12 hours runtime; USB-C recharge.
Simple Setup, Smart Control

- No installation: power on, clip it, and go—no airframe integration required.
- Configurable alerts: adjust proximity and altitude thresholds, volume, and LED brightness via built-in Wi-Fi settings page.
- Auto-brightness: LEDs adapt to ambient light via onboard photocell.
EFB / iPad Integration
- GDL-90 over Wi-Fi: broadcasts traffic to popular EFB apps (e.g., ForeFlight, SkyDemon, EasyVFR) for added situational awareness.
skyAlert detects cooperative aircraft broadcasting ADS-B. It is not a certified detect-and-avoid system and does not replace see-and-avoid responsibilities or regulatory approvals.

What does skyAlert detect?
Cooperative crewed aircraft broadcasting ADS-B Out on 978 MHz (UAT) and 1090 MHz (ES). It provides audible tones and LED alerts when aircraft enter your configured proximity/altitude zone.
Is skyAlert a certified detect-and-avoid system?
No. skyAlert enhances situational awareness for pilots and visual observers but does not replace see-and-avoid responsibilities or certified DAA solutions.
Does skyAlert help with FAA BVLOS or DFR programs?
It is not itself a compliance device. It can support safer operations by improving awareness, but BVLOS/DFR require the appropriate approvals and procedures.
Is any installation required?
No. It’s wearable—clip it to a belt or visor with the included RAM® mount. No aircraft integration or mounting is needed.
How do I configure alert settings?
Connect to the unit’s Wi-Fi, then open http://192.168.4.1/settings to adjust range, altitude, volume, LED brightness, and Wi-Fi options. Default alert zone is ~1,000 ft vertical / 1 mi lateral.
Can skyAlert connect to EFB apps?
Yes. It broadcasts GDL-90 traffic over Wi-Fi for popular EFBs (e.g., ForeFlight, SkyDemon, EasyVFR). Connect your device to the skyAlert Wi-Fi network.
How long does the battery last, and how do I charge it?
Up to 12 hours of operation. Charge via USB-C with a USB 5 V/2 A charger. From empty, charging can take up to 12 hours. Higher-output chargers may not be compatible.
Is the battery user-replaceable?
No. The internal lithium-ion battery is not user-replaceable.
How do I silence or snooze an alert?
Press the power button once to mute the alarm for ~30 seconds. Adjust thresholds in the settings to reduce nuisance alerts.
What do the LEDs indicate?
LEDs report traffic (ADS-B), alert status (ALRT), GPS fix, and power/battery. Brightness auto-adjusts via a photocell and can be configured in settings. See the User Guide for the full color/state table.
How do I reset to factory defaults?
With the unit powered on, hold the power button for ~10 seconds until the LEDs flash white, then release and power on again.
How do I update firmware?
Connect to the device’s Wi-Fi, open http://192.168.4.1, and follow the on-screen update links to load the provided ADS-B (.uav) and/or Wi-Fi (.bin) files.
Operating environment?
Approx. −49 to 158 °F (−45 to 70 °C). Store the unit clean and dry in the included EVA case when not in use.
What’s included?
skyAlert device, USB-A to USB-C cable (1 ft), Getting Started card, EVA zipper case with foam insert, RAM® Universal Belt & Visor Clip, and installed RAM® base adapter.
